But as she watches her friend's excitement over her soon-to-be wedding, Rose wonders if there shouldn’t be more to her relationship with Luke. She begins to examine Luke and his life more closely and is amazed when she stumbles upon an exciting, secret side of him that engages her mind and heart.

"A Perfect Plan" by Beth Wiseman

What wasn't planned was all the problems the couple encounters as their big day approaches. A house disaster, a ruined wedding dress, and a sick attendant all make the couple wonder if God's sending them signs to call things off.
My Comments :
This is not my first time reading Amish fiction. In fact I have read "Amish Love" by the same authors which I have enjoyed very much.
This time, I was rather disappointed by Kelly Long's "The Perfect Secret". I feel that the story was a bit dragging. I wish the pace of this story is a bit faster.
As for "The Perfect Match" , it was fun. I am not sure how many of you would categories this story as fun but for me I enjoyed it. The character Naomi was a very charming lady.
Beth Wiseman's "A Perfect Plan" is not bad too. It houses many interesting things that would or may happen dring planning a wedding.
Despite some what disappointed by the first story, I find that the link between these 3 novella makes this book an enjoyable reads. It's perfect for those who are thinking of marriage.
Many thanks to the authors for thoughtfulness in adding a Glosary at the beginning of the book. It certainly helped me understand the story much better.

The Adventures of Amir Hamza by Ghalib Lakhnavi & Abdullah Bilgrami

WARNING : TO BE READ WITH AN OPEN MIND.

The story in this book is something like The Arabian Nights Tales.

Amir Hamza was born under a lucky star. He was destine to do great things and to be a great man. Helping him was Amar Ayyar, his best friend who is the world greatest trickster.

Before Amir Hamza was born, it was written in the stars that he is destined to save Persian Emperor, Naushervan's crown. And that he did. But at the same time, he fell madly in love with Naushervan's daughter, Princess Mehr-Nigar.

However, there are those who are in the court of Emperor Naushevan who hates him. And they poisoned the Emperor's mind against him. Emperor Naushevan gave him many dangerous and near impossible task. Amir Hamza travelled far and wide accomplish those task. Through his journey, he was endlessly challenged by human, magical creatures, Djinns and demons. He managed to defeat them with the help of his best friend Amar. He welcomed those who are willing to convert to the True Faith of Islam and destroy those who don't. In between, he also met and loves many lovely females.

It's a really beautiful tale. The wordings were flowery and meaningful.

However, I think I would love it more if it's translated into the Malay language like what I've read in Hikayat Seribu Satu Malam.

In my opinion, the book should have been name The Adventures of Amar Ayyar because Amar seems to outshine Amir Hamza. I couldn't help laughing at the tricks he played on people and marvel at all his brilliant ideas.

To enjoy this book, it have to be read with and open mind. Please do not let the differences in religion to hinder the joy of reading it.

I am glad that I found this Hardcover copy at the Big Bad Wolf Sale last year at RM8 only. What a great bargain.

The Amateur Marriage by Anne Tyler

Michael and Pauline met for the first time in his mother's grocery shop. Pauline was hurt and she was brought into the shop by her two girlfriends. Michael was attracted to her despite their different background.

Red hot romance blossomed. War is just around the corner. Michael volunteered to join the armed forces. It was one of those War time romance. Pretty soon they got married and settled down at the grocery store.

Not all were rosy. The babies came on after another. Sometimes they quarrel. Pauline was not satisfied with staying upstairs of the grocery store. Understandable that she wanted a home of their own.

A few years later, they managed to move to a home of their own at a better neighbourhood. And yet, things slowly came undone

Anne Tyler managed to capture the mood of that era in this book. It's easy to digest why they got married and things like that. Only when near the ending, things was a bit dull.

The one thing I don't like about this book is the font. It is very tiny and hard to read. Am not sure why the font is so tiny. Is it to save paper so that can cut cost in printing or if there are any other reason?

I bought this book solely because of Anne Tyler is such a good author and I often enjoy her books very much. Otherwise, I would not buy it at all due to the tiny fonts. If there are any authors out there reading this blog post, do consider the font when you intend to publish your book,

The Villa In Italy by Elizabeth Edmondson

I got this book from BookXcess to make up the amount in order to get the Members Discount price. Typical "kiasu" of me. Well, no regrets there.

The story is about four people from different background received a letter from solicitor telling them that a Beatrice Malaspina had bequest them something. Beatrice Malaspina was an unknown person to them. They were required to travel to a Villa in Italy to claim the bequest.

The four persons were :-

Delia, an opera singer
George , an atom scientist
Marjorie, a detective novelist
Lucius, a Boston Banker

When they arrived, they found that even the solicitor doesn't know what is inside the Will. There was instruction from this mysterious Beatrice that they are to stay in the Villa for 33 days to search for the Will. Failing which, their bequest would be donated to some organisation which they truly detest. And the search begins.

There is a little bit of everything in this delightful novel. Each of them have their own secret past and the sadness cum regrets that they had to bear till today.

The beginning for the novel was interesting. The pace slowed a bit by the middle of the book. Nevertheless it still holds my attention. Bits and pieces start to reveal themselves. Mainly of the four person's past. Mystery still continues on. Nobody seems to know how Beatrice managed to get so much personal information about them and knew their darkest secrets.

The end of the book was very fast paced. There are some parts where I felt lost on who is related to who.

Overall, it was a relaxing read. A charming book. A mystery with a hint of romance.

Message In A Bottle by Nicholas Sparks

I like to state that I hate Nicholas Sparks books. But like a moth to the sparks of a candle, I am fatally attracted to them.

A Message In A Bottle is no difference from his other books and yet he still managed to come up with something that pull the readers' heart string.

Theresa a divorcee with a twelve year old son though she would never love again. Never wanted to open her heart to be hurt again. That is until one fateful day when she saw a bottle on the beach. She thought she was going to do a good deed for the environment by picking up the bottle to throw it into the rubbish bin.

Then she saw it was not and ordinary bottle. In it, there was a letter. Her fate was in the letter.

It was a love letter from someone name Garrett addressed to Catherine. It was a very moving letter. She cried when she read it.

at the persuasion of her mentor, the letter was published in her news paper column. She received a lot of respond from readers about the letter and there was one particular reader who persistently wanted to talk to her. There she for the second letter also from Garrett to Catherine with the same tone it was written in the first letter. Then she came upon the third letter.

This aroused her curiosity and she started to dig around. She found the real Garrett and went to see him.

The two of them hit it off immediately. But would they be able to put their past behind and look forward to the future?

Well, here is where the wonderful Nicholas Sparks put an unexpected ending to the story. Gosh...I really hate his books.....

The Kiss By Danielle Steel

Isabelle Forrester is the wife of a Parisian Banker, Gordon. Gordon had long shut his heart to her. Now she lives for her daughter and her invalid son, Teddy.

Bill Robinson a power broker  from Washington is also trapped in a loveless marriage.

Isabelle and Bill met through her husband, Gordon. They conducted their relationship..if you can call it that through long distance telephone calls that is until one day both had the opportunity to meet u for a few days in London.

They fell in love with each other when the finally meet up and as there were kissing a horrible accident happen. Both nearly died.

Then the long healing journey begins. Things seems to have brightens when another tragedy struck. This may cause unamendable break between them.

I found this story is a bit frustrating. There seems to have endless obstacle thrown to them again and again. Poor love birds. Just like Shattered Heart by Cleffairy.

The characters are well developed. I really hated Gordon for his domineering ways and pity Isabella for her innocent. Gordon have been dishonest since the beginning and he was so mean as to put the blame on Isabella.

Overall, this is an average read

An Amish Love By Beth Wiseman, Kathleen Fuller & Kelly Long

"An Amish Love" consist of 3 novellas in a book. "A Marriage of The Heart" by Kelly Long, "What The Heart Sees" by Kathleen Fuller and "Healing Hearts" by Beth Wiseman.

In "A Marriage of The Heart", Abigail Kauffman was desperate to get away from her strict father. The opportunity come in the form of Joseph Lambert, a man who is pleasing to her eyes. Joseph just return to the community of their small town of Paradise PA.

Unfortunately the plan did not go like what she had hope for. She married Joseph but they still live under her Dad's rule.

Although, being forced to marry Abby, Joseph did not really hold much resentment. In fact they slowly come to love each other.

Then there is a "hiccup" where Joseph's past came back to haunt them.

In the end, Abby got to know the reason why her Dad was so strict with her.

"What The Heart Sees" tell the tale of Ellie Chupp who lost her sight in an accident.  Not only that, her boy friend also left her for obvious reason. She had resigned to be alone till the day she die that is till Christopher Miller literally "Bumped" into her leaving a big bump on her forehead.

Chris have come back to the community after 5 years of the accident which took the life of her beloved, Caroline. Chris was shunned when he went to the police to report Isaiah. After 5 years, he thought he can forgive Isaiah

To his shock, his sister Sarah is to be married to Isaiah. Once again Chris was put into a dilemma. Can he forgive Isaiah who is going to be his brother?

This brought Ellie and Chris closer together. But Ellie have a secret of her own.

There is a twist at the end of there story

In "Healing Hearts",  Naaman Lapp walks out on his wife, Levina for one whole year. No reason given except the he is going to visit his cousins in Ohio. Levina thought it would be a short trip but as days past, her heart tells her otherwise.

Then out of the blue, Naaman shows up after one year of absence. Naaman told her that he is home to stay. But can Levina believe him?

And to make it more complicated, a Sheriff from Ohio had show up in the community looking for Naaman. Why is the Sheriff looking for Naaman? What did he do while he was staying with his cousin in Ohio?

In this story, there is also a twist in the end.

I have read books about Amish community before. Thus, this did not come much of a cultural shock for me.

Generally, I like this book. The love there is so innocent and sweet. The way the stories were written also very captivating. Especially the twist at the end of the tale. Something like Jeffrey Archer books.

And most of all, the fonts are of standard size. Not those tiny size. I really dislike reading books with tiny fonts.

I give this book 4 stars out of 5.

I received this book free from Thomas Nelson, the publisher through the BookSneeze.com book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255
At the back flap of this book I saw "The Amish Gathering". I hope I can get my hands on this book.

The Wedding By Nicholas Sparks

I have been reading Nicholas Sparks novel non-stop for the past few days. Chen Chzan lend me a stack of them. This is the last book(I think).

The Wedding is a sequel to The Notebook. Here, Noah is old and Allie had pass away. Noah is staying in a Home.

The Wedding continue with Noah's daughter, Jane.

Wilson Lewis is an attorney and had been married to Jane for nearly 3 years. They fell in love when they were young. But somehow they have grown apart.

It is not that they no longer love each other but well...at first works comes in the way. Wilson was always busy with work. Making ends meet.

Then comes the children. Jane was busy with them.

Later the children grew up. House were empty. Just the two of them. Don't know what to talk about. So the distance grew.

Till one night Jane let out a sob. Wilson was curious. Then Jane wished him "Happy anniversary" and then Wilson saw the gifts for him on the table. It was their 29th anniversary and Wilson had totally forgotten about it.

He felt horrible. The next day he went and order flowers for Jane.
All seems to be normal till Jane said she wanna visit their son. Wilson offer to go with her but she told him she wanted time alone. She doesn't know when she will be coming back.

Only then did Wilson knew how much he had hurt her. Wilson does not know how to get her to forgive him/ He visited Noah often and one time he mentioned this to Noah. Then Noah told him a story which gives him an idea.

Wilson started to court Jane all over again. Spending more time with her.

Then something happen less than a month before their 30th anniversary. Their daughter Anna suddenly announce that she had fell in love and want to get married in just a few weeks.

Jane was shocked as she had wanted Anna to have a beautiful wedding but Anna wanted a simple wedding. Just register with the Registrar and nothing else.

Wilson managed to persuade Anna for a compromise. Hence, Jane got to help Anna to arrange for a reception., wedding photograph, wedding gowns and all that.

All went well till the day of the wedding.

I think this is the 1st story that Sparks write which is without a hit of bitterness in the ending. A beautiful book

A Walk To Remember by Nicholas Sparks

Landon Carter is a 57 years old man who recounted back the year where his life changed. It was 1958 and he was 17 years old boy

His family was not rich but life was not bad. His father was a Congressman. His grandfather was not a good man. He was a bootlegger and was sort of a loan shark.

Landon was not entirely a bad boy but neither was a good one also. He and his friend used to tease the town's Baptist Minister, Hegbert.

Meantime, Hegbert also seems to dislike the Carters much.

Hence it was very surprising that Landon fell in love with Hegbert pious daughter Jamie.

Jamie is an angel. A good girl. The two of them have nothing in common except Drama class. As they got to know each other, Landon start to like Jamie while being teased by his friends. Landon gradually sees the side of Jamie which makes him fall in love with her.

Unfortunately, this love was not meant to be unless there is a miracle.

As always with Sparks's books, the is always a hint of sadness in the end.

The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks

My friend, Chen Chzan, went and dig out her collection of Nicholas Sparks books when she got to know that I like his writings.

The Guardian is a bit out of the norm for Nicholas Sparks usual style which is mostly about love. This book have is a book about love and a hint of thriller.

Julie Barenson's husband, Jim, died when she was just 25 years old. They were so in love. Knowing that Julie will be lonely after his death, Jim had arranged for a puppy to be delivered to her after his death together with a letter stating that he will be her watching over her even though in death.

Strangely enough the dog which she named "Singer" have an almost human like attitude and seems to understand her every word.

For a long time, Julie mourn  for Jim.

During this period, Jim's best friend Mike fell in love with Julie but he dare not voice out.

Then Julie started to date again. There were some disastrous dates till she met the mysterious Richard who seems to be every woman dream man. Richard courted Julie in the earnest .

Mike also came out of his shell and started to express his feelings to her and Singer like Mike. Julie was not sure whether to choose Mike or Richard for she didn't want to jeopardise her friendship with Mike should their romance does not work out.

But then Julie noticed something about Richard which makes her feel uncomfortable. When she tries to break off with Richard, strange things started to happen. There is more to Richard than what's meets the eyes.

Mike tried to protect her but even Mike also got in trouble with the law because of that.

Things started rolling and till the end of  the book

I love this book very much. It have just the right hint of romance and the suspense. Am a bit sad also as Sparks seems to love to put a bit of sadness at the end of his books

The Rescue By Nicholas Sparks

It was a dark and stormy night. Denise is a single mother and she was travelling alone with her 4 year old son, Kyle. Kyle is not your normal boy. He have speech problem and can't really communicate much with the people around him. Denise love Kyle very much. He is her life.

Denise car went in to a spin when she tried to avoid a deer. She woke up in the dark. A man face was at the window. He was Taylor McAden, a volunteer fireman. Taylor is not your ordinary man. He was a contractor but also a dare devil. Whenever there is a risky mission, he is the 1st one that volunteer for it

Denise was horrified when she discovered that Kyle was no longer in the car. There were a search an rescue team.

Taylor managed to find and rescue Kyle.

Taylor and Denise was mutually attracted to each other. But then, Taylor have a problem. Whenever a relationship grows closer, he would break off with the woman. His previous girlfriends said there is one part of him where they can't seems to reach. He want to rescue people but deep down inside he hide a dark secret and needed rescuing.

I like this book very much especially the character, Denise. Though she was young and made a mistake in her life, she did not give up. In fact she started to build a life of her own with her son even though the son have some problem. She gave up a lot for him

I hate Taylor's character. I really don't know what the heck he wanted. He wanted to "rescue" people but then in the end he is the one who hurt the people he rescue. His previous girlfriends all were having problems of their own when he rode in like a knight in shining armour to rescue them. But when they wanted more, he back out.

The way he giving them hope like that and the dashing them is just  despicable. If yes, say lah yes..if no, then say lah no.

The way that he hurt Denise and Kyle by backing away like that is just too wicked even though he had his own devil to deal with.

I guess this book aptly portray what people like to do nowadays.

Lila is the over-shadowed twin and had "escaped" from her planet to seek her freedom on Earth. She is also determined to complete the mission that her mother Planet sent her to Earth to for.

This mission is connected with Paul Anderson. Paul is a small town doctor whose wife ran away with another man. She left him with their twin toddlers. Paul was really desperate for help when Lila show up on his doorsteps.

She seems to be perfect in every way. He was real attracted to her. Lila too was attracted to him

But is in danger too. There is a group of people trying to capture her.

I like those book very much. Something different from your usual romance story. Lila was a wonderful and refreshing.

Christmas Treasures- Betty Neels & 2 others

This Mills & Boons is a 3-in-1 book.

1) Always and Forever by Betty Neels

Amabel is a "small dull creature that wears the most appalling clothes". She kept the B & B(not blackberry but Breakfast and Bed) while her mother went to Canada to visit her sister who have just gave birth. Amabel was a bit scared as this is the 1st time she is all alone and was hoping that her mom would come back soon

People thought she should close the B & B while her mom was away but money is a problem. Her mom had to take up a loan to go visit her sister and the new baby.( I don't understand, why so desperate to see the baby till have to take up loan for it.)

One day a guest checked in with his mom. That guest was Dr Fforde, a doctor, and he seems to be very concern about Amabel staying alone there keeping the B & B. He kept contact with Amabel

One day Amabel received a shocking letter. Her mom met a man and married the man. And they plan to convert the B &B into a greenhouse. Her mom hinted that Amabel should find work. (Grrrr...such a selfish woman.)

Her mom and her new stepfather came home suddenly. The darn man didn't like Amabel but expect her to work in the Greenhouse for him. Her mom sid she should do it and after she help her stepfather then maybe she can go out into the world to find a job (Habis manis, sepah dibuang). The final step came when the man planned to destroy her cat and dog. She ran away.

When Dr Fforde found out, he helped her again and again. But he have his own problems too.

I don't like this story at all. There is no clear time frame for this story. Don't know it's set for which era. Modern or historical.

Amabel seems to be such a pushover. Worry too much. I don;t seem why Dr Fforge sees in her apart from she being so "helpless".Very frustrating to read about her. Thought the story have a happily ever after, but if in real life, I wonder if this marriage would work.

2) The Perfect Christmas - Caroline Anderson

Julia is a widow with a young daughter, katie. her "husband" was a terrible flirt who abandoned her after she gave birth coz she is not sexy anymore. He managed to wrap his car and himself onto a tree one night and left Julia with a mountain of credit cards debt. She had to sell the house and work herself to the bone to payoff the debt. And she had swore off man as she want to protect her daughter

She is a nurse and one day she saw a roadside accident. She helped. And there was this man who is a doctor who also help. When she arrived to the hospital, she found out that this man is a new doctor in the hospital.

The doctor, David, was attracted to Julia from the first moment. But Julia tried to hold out as she does not want any messy relationship for the sake of her daughter.

This is story have the regular feel of a typical M & B. Enough romance and stuffs. Like it.

3) Christmas At His command - Helen Brooks

Marigold Flower...yup that's the name of the heroine was a woman scorned.. She borrowed the Cottage from her colleague Emma to hide during Christmas period to lick her wounds.

But unfortunately on the way to the cottage, her car broke down. To make the matter worse, she twisted her ankle very badly.

Then a car stop . A man came down to help her but before that he "shoot" her. Not with a gun but with words. He thought she was Emma. From his description, Emma and her family seems to be a horrible bunch. Nevertheless he did help her. Took her to his home and nursed her.

Then he found out the mistaken identity. He was attracted to her and vice versa. But as usual, there are obstacles.

A whirlwind romance. Good read.

Well this book seems to have a bad beginning but the later two stories were good. Satisfying. Worth the money.

THe Last Promise By Richard Paul Evan

This is another good book. Thanks to Jenna for lending me this Book.

It's a Cinderella story turns bad. Eliana, a small town girl who went to Italy for her last two month study was swept of her feet by a handsome Italian man. His name is Maurizio and he is well connected.

When they were courting all things are fine but after marriage, Maurizio turned out to have the Male chauvinism  trait. He expected Eliana to serve him hand and foot. He very much controlled her entire life. Not only that. He frequently left Eliana with their asthmatic son for business trips and these trips involves many love affair. Eliana know about this but she can't do anything about it  as Maurizio had threaten to take their son Alessio away from her.

Eliana thought she can turn a blind eye on the love affairs. That is until the arrival of their new tenant, Ross. An American who is working illegally as a Tour Guide Assistant.

Their attraction is mutual that is until Maurizio got to know about it. He took Alessio away from Eliana. Eliana was frantic and was willing to sacrificed everything to get her son back and this include her own happiness.

I am glad that I did not give up on this book. At the beginning I find it hard to start reading. But as I get along, things starts to reveal themselves.

Lovely book. Now I hope get my hands on his other books especially "The Christmas Box"

A Perfect Day By Richard Paul Evan

A friend loan me two Richard Paul Evan's book for nearly a year. I have tried reading this a few months ago but the "mood"  just wasn't there.Have you ever found yourself to be in need of a certain mood to read a certain book? I have considering to return the books to her without reading but decided to give it a try once again.

Robert met Allyson before her fathers death.  Allyson's mother had pass on some years ago and her father single handed raised her. Their relationship was very close. So close that her father wanted her to have a perfect day before he tell her that he was dying. He hopes that the man who marry Allyson would love her as much as he loves her. Robert promised Allyson's dad that.

Robert wanted to be a writer his whole life but he had to keep his dream in abeyance and take up a job in a Radio Station in order to support his family.  However, the family was happy

One day, lightning strike. He was fired from his job. Ally then urge him to go after his dream of being a writer. For more than 3 months he gave all he have and wrote a book.

The book was based on Ally and her father's relationship and their last days together. He sent to 25 agents but on and on he kept receiving rejection letters. Ally was always there to comfort him and urge him not to give up hope. He was like a zombie when he kept receiving those rejection letters. He gave up hope and went to work as a water sprinkler installer with his brother.

Then he received a call from and agent. The agent love the book. From then on he gain fame and fortune. He suddenly have millions of fans and constantly on book tour. This leaves Ally and their daughter very much alone at home. There were constant broken promises to Ally.

The gulf between them deepen till they could no longer stay together. Like Chinese saying "able to through hardship together but unable to go through being wealthy together".

The book agent felt very bad at this. Coz she felt it's her fault . Somehow she had managed to break up this wonderful family unit.

Then Robert had a strange encounter. A man he met told him that he have till New Year to live. At first Robert did not believe him but then the man seems to know everything about him and even things that he didn't tell people  and the man even managed to predict a few future incidences.

This convinced Robert and he suddenly realised his folly and set on to rectify his error. He dare not hope to win Ally back but at least he hope to be there for his family with what ever time he had left.

I finished this book in a day. This just show how good this book is. I am so glad that I gave this book another try. Sometimes I just need the mood to be right to read a certain book.

Thank you very much, Jenna, for lending me this book for such a long time
