Great Selections of Books Found in BookXcess This May

I have been rather busy lately. Hence neglected this blog for quite some time.

I was wondering what new books have graced the shelves in one of my favourite book store.

Last week I managed to drop by, BookXcess to check out their Mother's Day Promotion. Missed out on their World Book Day Promotion.

I did not expect much when I glance through their "New Arrival for May 2012" photos in Facebook. Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised by the great books that I found there during my short time in the store. Here are some of them.

And don't you just drool on these books that are priced RM10 and below???

And here are somethings for the kids. A lot of goodies in the bin and on the shelves

The above were just a tiny portion of what they have in the store. I have not venture into the Non-fiction realm nor the cook books realms. There are a lot more stuffs there.

Anyway, this is just a sharing post. Not a paid post nor review. Thought maybe some readers there would like to get their hands on some less pricey books.

Momaholic : Confessions of a Helicopter Parent by By Dena Higley

Synopsis by www.booksneeze.com

Every mom has felt the need to be perfect.
Momaholic is one woman’s private, dramatic, and often comical invitation to peek inside a time in her life where everything fell apart and she had to take an honest look at what she was doing right and what she’d been doing terribly wrong. With this simple discovery, her whacky family’s season of becoming unraveled found a new glue (other than her blood, sweat and tears) that would re-bond her family and unite them in a deeper and more functional way than ever before.
 The real life characters:
  • A MOM who is literally the head writer of a network soap opera… at work and at home
  • A HUSBAND who expects perfection from his kids and his wife, but who has the wisdom to know he's being unrealistic and yet, can't help but scratch his head in frustration as his family's troubles seem to spiral out of his control
  • An autistic SON
  • A popular DAUGHTER who is suddenly pregnant
  • An ADOPTED DAUGHTER pulled from the jungles of Vietnam with no leg below the right knee and fingers fused together
  • An ADOPTED SON from Ethiopia, rescued from the streets at the age of 9.
This is a story showing the speed with which a "normal" family can fall apart.  No one dies.  No one gets kidnapped.  They just have to deal with each of their own issues….and then one unwanted and unplanned pregnancy.   This was a church-going family whose kids were taught abstinence until marriage. With the family running around as the tornado sirens roared warnings to take cover, mother, Miss Drama, becomes the biggest mess of all and ends up finding a whole new freedom for her soul.

My Comments :

This is not the usual genre of book that I read. I requested this book from the Publisher, Thomas Nelson, because of the term "Helicopter Parent". It piqued my interest.

Love the way the book start with the author overdosed in alcohol and was looking at a man's butt. Her husband's. That's when I know, I would be able to read through the whole book.

I find that the author was quite candid on the things that was happening around her when she crashed. I can feel her love for her kids, be it biological or adopted; and her husband . This is especially so when she mentioned that they have created some stress which contributed to her crash and burn but she took full responsibility on what happen. She was trying to much to be the perfect person.

Adding some family photographs in the book is a good move. Makes me feel that I know them more instead of just some characters out of a book.

In my opinion, this is good reading material for all parent who hovers around their kids like a helicopter. That's where the term "Helicopter Parent" came from. They wanted everything to be perfect for their kids and the hover around them ; doing things for them instead of letting the kids do things for themselves.

Overall, I like this book well enough and rate it 3 stars out of 5.
